Curly Hair Song

So I've been thinking about my curly hair a lot lately. I haven't had my hair cut in about 5 months so it's kind of at an awkward length and I've been straightening it a lot lately (fyi above is pre-haircut). One day as I was straightening it I said to Sarah, "So I kind of feel bad for straightening my hair so much." Sarah asked if it was because the straightener damages it and I said, "No, not really... I just feel like I'm betraying my curly hair." Sarah laughed at me and told me that she thought my curly hair would understand. But I still feel bad...

A few years ago I thought about writing a song about my curly hair and how it kind of symbolizes the real me. A little crazy, unruly at times, unique, "spunky"... My curly hair is how God made me. Now that I think about it I have no idea how that could be a cohesive/decent song at all, but I used to that think it would be...

Anyway, I wore my hair curly today. I'm not writing this post to say, "Hey look at me and my gorgeous curly hair" (because generally it is far from gorgeous.) I'm just saying this is something about me that I'm thankful for because it makes me me....

Cardigans

I remember in the movie Never Been Kissed when Drew Barrymore's character gets caught secretly talking on the phone by her friends and to cover it up she says she was just checking out the nearby cardigan and the whole group ends up getting one each in a different color. I didn't even know what a cardigan was then, but this past year I have fell in love...

A long time ago I signed up for In Style's "Look of the Day," so I get e-mails daily of the great (actually most of the time it really isn't that great at all) fashion of celebrity women. Yesterday I received this picture of Julia Roberts and was reminded of how much I love cardigans.

I would say a typical Abby Thomason outfit would be (not really anymore because it is getting nicer outside...) jeans, my Sperry's, a t-shirt/solid colored shirt, a scarf, and a cardigan. It takes the place in my wardrobe of what used to be the zip-up hoodie. I mean, really a cardigan is a zip-up hoodie without the zipper or hood so I haven't come that far... but still.

Here are a couple others that I really like:

Left from Gap (V has this and I love it), right from Anthropologie

My roommates...

My roommates are the greatest. I have heard many roommate horror stories and I am blessed to say that I have none because my roommates are wonderful. It is so random how we all came together... Meg was my potluck roommate freshman year and we just got along and eventually became great friends. Valeria, I met on the side of the road when she asked me for directions and Meg and I invited her to come along and we all hit it off right away. Sarah, I went to high school with but didn't get to know her until college and now I think she's awesome. These ladies have come together to be three of my best friends. We laugh, cry, sing, vent, dance, etc... together all the time, and it's great.

Cheesey post #2,571: I love my roommates.

Morse Google

So, it's still raining... Not going to lie, it's hard for me to find things to be joyful about today because it is still gross outside. I just went to Google, I don't even remember what I was going to search, but I saw today's logo and was delighted. I know I've talked about the Google logos before, but this was a little thing that brought a smile to my face today soI thought I'd share it with everyone.

It is Samuel Morse's birthday... therefore Google in Morse code. Cool, huh?

"Let's roll, windows down..."

One of my favorite things to do when the weather is nice (or anytime, really...) is drive with the windows down and music up. After my long trip back to Columbia today, I finally exited the interstate and I rolled the windows down to be greeted by a moment of bliss caused by some great music (I was listening to Leeland's "Reaching" at the time) and wind in my hair.

I took the above picture to try to show the bliss, but it just didn't convey it... at all. So instead, I turn to one of my favorite Matt Wertz songs "Everything's Right." This is one of my favorite songs of all time because he is one of my favorite artists and he sings about one of my favorite things. Perfection. Anyway, here are the lyrics that I like, and below is a video of him singing the song. Enjoy!
"Windows down as the night blows in
Tap the beat on the wheel as the tires spin
Until we're there crank the radio
We'll join in with the songs we know

Hey, everything's right, said everything's right tonight..."

Tulips!

The tulip has always been my favorite flower. It is so vibrant and it's so refreshing to see them pop up after a long, gross winter. It works out perfectly because the landscapers of MU are also fans of tulips so tulips are everywhere around campus and I love it. I love tulips. (I realized that I say "I love *fill in the blank*" in every post I ever write, so I thought I would continue the trend...) Tuition at MU is pretty expensive. So when I'm walking by these tulips I like to think that they are what my tuition went to...

Anyway, everyday I walk by some beds of tulips and have been wanting to take pictures of them for a while. Last night I finally did. There wasn't much sunlight so they aren't as good as I wanted them to be. But you get the gist.

Benches.

Columbia, MO
So I can't really believe that I haven't blogged about this yet. I literally went back and checked all of my old posts to make sure I hadn't already done it, because I was so surprised. I'm pretty sure I haven't, so today is the day. Today is the day that I finally blog about my love for benches.

I love benches. I love taking pictures of benches just about as much as I love benches. What I love about them is that they are saying, "Stop and rest. Take a look around. Enjoy what is surrounding you." They just symbolize stopping and appreciating things and I like that.

Here are a few pictures of some benches that I have seen. I think I just decided that this summer (because I will be living there!!), I want to go around and take pictures of the different benches all over Kansas City. Maybe I'll make a calendar: "The Benches of Kansas City." I think I like it.
Anna Maria Island, Florida
Not sure, but it's in Kansas ,I think
(Family, what is the park with the stepping stones?)
